Green Bay finished second in the NFC North last year with a 10-6 record. The Packers were 7-1 at home and 3-5 on the road. They went 4-2 in the division and 8-4 in the conference.

They won Super Bowl XLV by defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25. Along the way they knocked-off Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Chicago all on the road to notch their fifth world championship in franchise history.

Green Bay Packers 2011 Preview

Most NFL football fans are familiar with Green Bay’s magical run to a world title last season, but many wondered what it would have to do to repeat as champions in 2011. The Packers did not really need the college draft or the recent free agency frenzy to get ready for another deep run this season; they simply had to clear all the players off of the injured reserve list that ended up there last season.

Back on offense are RB Ryan Grant and TE Jeremichael Finley, who would make any offense in the league instantly better. They will join RB James Starks, who shined in the postseason with 315 rushing yards in four games and WR’s Greg Jennings and Donald Driver, who combined for 127 receptions for 1,830 yards and 16 TD’s in the regular season. When you surround a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers with this many weapons, you would have to believe that this team should easily eclipse the 24.2 points a game it averaged in 2010.

The defense took a hit when defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins decided to sign with Philadelphia as a free agent, but there is still enough talent on this side of the ball to match the 309 yards and 15 points a game it gave up last season; which were both ranked in the top five in the league. Also gone is LB Nick Burnett, who spent most of last season on IR, but the Packers are confident that A.J Hawk can fill the void. They also used the draft to add some depth on this side of the ball by selecting DB Davon House in the fourth round and LB D.J. Smith in the sixth round.

The only thing that could derail Green Bay’s run to a second consecutive title is succumbing to the Super Bowl hangover that has plagued so many other teams in the past. The talent level on this team remains high and it has already proven it can battle through any adversity that may come down the pike. It also helps that this Packers’ team is head and shoulders above any other team in the division so a division title and possible first-round bye are practically in the bag.
