Miami Dolphins 2009 Preview, Picks, & Odds.

The one word that summarizes the 2008 season for the Miami Dolphins is of course none other than Wildcat. The Wildcat formation took the NFL by storm and propelled the Dolphins offense into a dynamic threat. The late addition of quarterback Chad Pennington also served as an immediate boost for the club. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams provided an excellent dual threat from the backfield and Ted Ginn began to fulfill some of the promise he was drafted for. Joey Porter returned to excellence with a 17.5 sack season. The club also got a great season from linebacker Channing Crowder and safety Yeremiah Bell among other defensive contributors which helped the Dolphins finish 10 th against the run. The team finished 9 th in the league in terms of points allowed but was only 25 th against the pass.

MIAMI DOLPHINS 2009 PREVIEW

The Dolphins had a great season last year with a 11-5 record which is awesome compared to the year before when they were 1-15. It started with Bill Parcells becoming the executive vice president of football operations for the Dolphins. The 2009 Miami Dolphins Season Preview is still very excited with the hire of Tony Sparano as head coach who was with Parcells in Dallas. Most all of the coordinators are coming back, and we should see more of the trademark Wildcat offense, which the Miami Dolphins displayed last year with Ronnie Brown and Chad Pennington. It proved to be very effective against most defenses in the NFL. Last years’ number one draft pick Jake Long proved to be a smart move. This year they should have a new wrinkle to the wildcat with the addition of Pat White which they snagged with their second pick in this years’ draft.

2009 MIAMI DOLPHINS OFFENSE:

The Dolphins coaching staff was obviously thrilled for the chance to draft Pat White and add him into the fold for the Wildcat attack. Chad Pennington will continue to be the every down passer but additional folds can be worked into the freewheeling scheme with the speed and passing of White. This adds to an already dangerous attack featuring Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. Still, the club doesn’t have many threats at wide receiver and will need Ted Ginn to continue to develop into a reliable option.

2009 MIAMI DOLPHINS DEFENSE:

Jason Taylor returns to his former club, adding depth to a talented group of linebackers. Will Joey Porter be able to have a 2009 season that is up to par with his stellar 2008 season? The Dolphins worked to improve the secondary over the off season, a weak spot for the club last year. They drafted a defensive backs in the first and second round in Vontae Davis and Sean Smith. The Dolphins also signed free agent safety Gibril Wilson. If Porter can put together another great season and the new members of the defensive backfield can pick up their game, the Dolphins defense will be solid from top to bottom.
