New England Patriots 2010 Odds, Previews, and Predictions
Current odds to win: Division: 5-4 Conference: 9-2 Super Bowl: 9-1
New England won the AFC East last year with a 10-6 record. They were 8-0 at home and 2-6 on the road. They went 4-2 in the division and 7-5 in the conference.
They lost to the Baltimore Ravens 33-14 in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
2010 Outlook
The biggest difference between last year’s team and this year is the fact that QB Tom Brady is finally healthy after tearing up his knee almost two years ago. He should be able to return to the form that helped lead this team to three championships. This organization is one of the best at rebuilding through free agency as well as the draft and with this off season’s acquisitions have addressed some of the team’s most pressing needs.
On offense they brought in some veteran leadership by signing WR Torry Holt and TE Alge Crumpler and resigned RB Kevin Faulk. They also drafted TE Rob Gronkowski from Arizona in the second round and WR Taylor Price from Ohio in the third round.
Defensively they added DT Gerard Warren and DE Marques Murrell and resigned CB Leigh Bodden and DT Vince Wilfork. In an effort to further bolster the secondary they drafted CB Devin McCourty from Rutgers with the 27th overall pick in the first round. In the second round they selected two defensive standouts from Florida; DE Jermaine Cunningham and LB Brandon Spikes.
The Patriots added a total of 12 new players from this year’s draft in an effort to funnel some youth into a veteran lineup. There are very few coaches who are better at getting the most out of his players than Bill Belichick. His 148-92 regular season record along with a 15-5 record in the playoffs that includes three Super Bowls is a testament to this.
