New England Patriots 2010 NFL Record:14-2 Home: 8-0 Away: 6-2

New England finished first in the AFC East last year with a 14-2 record. The Patriots were 8-0 at home and 6-2 on the road. They went 5-1 in the division and 10-2 in the conference.

They lost to New York 28-21 at home in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

New England Patriots 2011 Preview

Bill Belichick became the head coach of the New England Patriots in 2000 and finished the season with a 5-11 record. Since that point, his team has never won less than nine games and has double-digit victories in nine of the 10 seasons. With a track record like this it is safe to assume that a play on the ‘over’ on this season’s win total projection of 11.5 is a fairly safe bet.

Has already gone out on a limb in an effort to get back to the Super Bowl, after a couple of unexpected early exits in the playoffs, by signing veteran defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth and wide receiver Chris Ochocinco, who had worn out their welcome with their previous teams. He also signed defensive end Shaun Ellis from its heated rival the Jets in an effort to bolster a defense that had slipped to 25th overall and 30th against the pass.

The simple reason the defense was not more of a liability last season, was an offense that led the league in scoring with an average of 32.4 points a game. All the pieces from that juggernaut remain in place starting with quarterback Tom Brady. Nobody carries the disappointment of last season’s loss to the Jets in the playoffs harder than him. He has looked his normal self in limited action in the preseason and with the addition of Ochocinco, appears poised to try and eclipse the 3,900 passing yards and 36 touchdown passes he posted in 2010. A healthy and motivated Brady makes New England the team to beat in the AFC no matter who is surrounding him in the other skill positions.

New England is the favorite from the AFC to make it to the Super Bowl this season simply because it is due. The Patriots won it all in 2003 and 2004, and made it back to the title game in 2007 when they went a perfect 16-0 in the regular season. With the NFC East on the schedule this season along with AFC teams such as San Diego, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis, it is doubtful they will coast to another 14 win season, but rest assured that New England will win enough games to be in a solid situation for another run at a world title come January.
