NFC South Win Totals Predictions

2010 NFC South – Win Totals Preview, Predictions & Picks

NFC South Win TotalsAs all 32 teams are back in training camp to begin preparing for the 2010 NFL football season, it is time to take a look at the projected win total for each team to try and determine whether they will go over, stay under, or push. Today we take a look at each team in the NFC South.

New Orleans Saints – Win Total Prediction: 10.5

new orleans saints previewComing off its best year in franchise history, New Orleans is faced with the challenge of avoiding all the distractions and pitfalls that have derailed many a Super Bowl champion from successfully defending its title. After winning 13 games in the regular season in 2009, accomplishing that feat could be a stretch in 2010. Every team you play will be gunning for you so there will be very few easy games on the schedule. Four out of the Saints last six games are on the road, including at Dallas in week 12 (Thanksgiving Day), at Cincinnati the following week, and at Baltimore in week 16. They will not win 13 games again but will win at least 11- OVER.

Atlanta Falcons – Win Total Prediction: 9

atlanta falcons previewAtlanta followed up an 11 win season in 2008 with a nine win season last year. The question is was 2009 just a bump in the road on the rise back up, or a sign of a downward spiral? The Falcons still have a solid core of players and quality quarterback in Matt Ryan and running back in Michael Turner. What they will need to do is play with better consistency on both sides of the ball as mental errors and costly mistakes led to a number of losses last season. This year the Falcons have really only three tough road games at Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and New Orleans. They will host Cincinnati, Green Bay, Baltimore, and of course the Saints so there is little margin for error if they hope to win more than nine games – PUSH.

Carolina Panthers – Win Total Prediction: 7.5

carolina panthers previewMatt Moore becomes the starting quarterback in Carolina with Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen waiting in the wings. The Panthers still have a decent running game led by Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams, but will struggle to play from behind with a passing offense that was ranked 27th in the league last year. The beginning of the year will be a test, as Carolina opens the season at the Giants, hosts Cincinnati in week three, and travels to New Orleans to play the Saints in week four. Another slow start to the season could have Clausen in the starting lineup quicker than expected in effort to see if he will be their quarterback of the future – UNDER.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Win Total Prediction: 5.5

tampa bay buccaneers previewAfter going 9-7 in 2008 and missing the playoffs, Tampa decided to go in a new direction by firing longtime head coach John Gruden and hiring first time head coach Raheem Morris. The move resulted in 3-13 record and last place finish in the division. While Tampa showed some signs of improvement down the stretch, winning two out of its last three games, the stage is not set for a dramatic reversal of fortunes in 2010. The Buccaneers are going with a young, unproven commodity at quarterback; Josh Freeman and have no game changers in the skill positions. With a solid draft their defense will be better, but that only means they might be a good pick against the spread – UNDER.
