NFL Betting – Observations After Preseason Week 1 in the NFL

The sportsbook experts are always divided on the importance of preseason games as applied to regular season performance. While it is difficult to project how a team will perform in the regular season after seeing only one preseason game, there are some observations that can be made which will provide a lot of value to the online football betting world.

Andrew Luck and RG3

For the entire summer, the media has been throwing more and more hype on rookie quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. In the end, both quarterbacks delivered and showed promise for the regular season. Luck’s first NFL preseason pass went for a touchdown and RG3 looked very good against the Buffalo Bills. It looks like these two will be able to live up to the hype and help improve their teams significantly.

Offensive Woes

It is important to keep in mind that this is just the first week of the preseason, but some teams look to be in trouble. Teams like the Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets looked woeful on offense and there has to be concern in those camps. The price per head experts noted that the offenses inNew Orleans,Houston and with the New York Giants all looked sharp. It is not out of the question to expect an offense to look efficient in the early goings of the preseason, but a team is not going to panic from a bad offensive performance in preseason week one. However, if the trend continues for any of these teams, then it is time to do something.

Musical Quarterbacks

Peyton Manning looked rusty in his preseason debut with the Denver Broncos and Tim Tebow looked like Tim Tebow in his preseason debut with the Jets. Manning threw some bad passes and even threw an interception in his limited time in the game. But the Broncos are not concerned and are just looking to get Manning some game time before the regular seasons starts.

A 5 dimes review of the Jets’ first preseason game shows that Tim Tebow is still having problems throwing the football with any accuracy. The recent statement by Jets’ head coach Rex Ryan that Tebow offers an important throwing element to the wildcat is still being met with confused looks.

Watch Out For New England

It looks like the Patriots had yet another smart and successful draft as the 2012 defensive picks were shining bright inNew England’s first preseason game. If the rookies can hold up under real game conditions, thenNew England’s defense will climb out the league basement and put the Patriots into Super Bowl contention again.
