NFL Betting – Romeo Has Come to Kansas City

The last good decision the Kansas City Chiefs made was when it confirmed that Romeo Crennel was the team’s new head coach. The best online betting sites were a little bit surprised by the reaction that Chiefs’ players had when former head coach Todd Haley was fired. The locker room pretty much said that they were glad to see Haley go. Judging by the way the team responded to Crennel with much better play, the relief that Haley was gone was evident. But that was the last good decision the Chiefs have made. The decisions made since then are a bit suspect.

The betting sites were scratching their heads when the Chiefs, who have the 11th best defense in the NFL and the 27th ranked offense, took a defensive tackle with its first pick in the draft. By taking defensive tackle Dontari Poe 11th overall in the draft, the Chiefs effectively addressed a need it did not have. With contract talks with wide receiver Dwayne Bowe breaking down, the Chiefs offense looks to be in a little trouble going into 2012.

Offense

It is no secret that Matt Cassel will be the starting quarterback in 2012 for the Kansas City Chiefs. Casselis a warrior that has earned the respect of his teammates. But Cassel is also injury prone, and the sports betting experts cannot help but point out thatCassel’s injuries in 2011 is one of the reasons the Chiefs could not win. The other two problems were the injury to running back Jamaal Charles and a terrible offensive line.

The Chiefs did select an offensive lineman with its second round pick in the draft, butKansas Cityneeds to do more to address its offensive line problems. With Jamaal Charles and Matt Cassel ready to come back from injuries, the offensive line is going to need to find ways to keep those two players healthy if it wants to do well in 2012.

Defense

You could say that the Chiefs took Poe in the first round because the Kansas Cityrun defense was ranked 26th in the league last year. Every 5dimes bettor knows that you can never have enough good defensive players, but the Chiefs’ offense is so bad that wasting picks on defense seemed counter productive. But the Chiefs might as well do what it can to improve an defense that could use a little help as it tries to repair the gaping holes in its offense.

Outlook

The Chiefs figure to be battling the Raiders for the AFC West basement while the Broncos and Chargers fight for the AFC West title. The Chiefs are only a few offensive linemen away from having a competitive team. Depending on what kinds of moves the Chiefs make in training camp, the team could still be competitive in 2012.
