NFL Betting – The San Francisco 49ers Take the Next Step

The 2010 season had to be frustrating for former San Francisco49ers head coach Mike Singletary because he could see that he had a talented football team. The only thing the football betting world could not figure out is what the 49ers were supposed to do at quarterback. It was obvious that Singletary wanted his offensive scheme to work and he would keep cycling quarterbacks in and out of the lineup until someone could deliver the kind of performance that Singletary was looking for. When that didn’t happen, Singletary was let go.

In 2011, Jim Harbaugh was brought in as the new head coach of the San Francisco49ers and the first thing he did was make Alex Smith his starting quarterback. There was no doubt in Harbaugh’s mind that Smith was his man. Since Harbaugh was a former NFL quarterback himself, the betting sites were interested to see what he would do with Smith. A few months later, Smith and Harbaugh had taken theSan Francisco 49ers to the NFC title game. In 2012, the team wants to go further.

Offense

Jim Harbaugh is an extremely emotional guy. He is always looking out for what is best for the team. When Harbaugh and 49ers executives were caught trying out Peyton Manning when Manning was a free agent, the consequences were bad. As soon as Alex Smith heard of the tryout, he was on a plane to Miamito discuss being the Dolphins’ starting quarterback. The price per head bookie experts knew that the next step was a huge contract offer from the 49ers to Smith. It was an offer Smith took, and he retained his position as theSan Francisco starting quarterback.

Just when the whole thing had started to die down, Harbaugh had to bring it back up to the media and defend his decision to tryout Peyton Manning. Jim Harbaugh had turned the entire 49ers team around in one season. But it was obvious that he did it with football smarts and a lot of emotion. The fear inSan Franciscois that Harbaugh will eventually burn himself out if he does not learn to control his emotion. Other than that, the 49ers offense is set to dominate in 2012. The addition of veteran wide receiver Randy Moss was a smart move and the team will benefit from it.

Defense

There is not much to say about the 49ers defense other than it will be one of the top defensive units in the league in 2012. A review of the 49ers defense shows a potent pass rush and an effective secondary. The 49ers were smart in making very few moves to disrupt the defense.

Outlook

TheSan Francisco49ers should be the best team in the NFC in 2012. The only danger forSan Franciscois if its offense gets predictable. Now that Alex Smith has a weapon like Randy Moss, the hope is that Harbaugh will let Smith use that weapon.
