NFL Week 14 – Top Pointspread Plays

NFL Top 3 Pointspread Plays-Week 14

Last week seven home teams won their game straight-up, and eight came out on top against the spread. Nine road teams won SU and eight road teams won ATS.

A total of eight dogs managed to win their games ATS with five teams winning their game SU. Oakland pulled off the biggest upset of the week with a 28-13 win over San Diego as a 13-point road underdog.

Turning to Week 14 there are seven home teams getting points. The largest spread has St. Louis getting 9 ½ points on the road against New Orleans and the smallest spread is currently a ‘pick’ in the Cleveland @ Buffalo game. The line on the Giants @ Vikings game is currently ‘off’ due to the uncertainty of Brett Favre being able to make his 298th consecutive NFL regular season start.

Here is a look at my top three ‘pointspread’ plays for the NFL’s Week 14. All lines quoted are courtesy of Betus.com.

Green Bay (-7) @ Detroit

The Packers come into this game at 8-4 and one game behind Chicago in the NFC North. They have won four out of their last five games, outscoring their opponents 164-70 in this five game span. QB Aaron Rodgers has thrown eight touchdowns and no interceptions in his last three games.

The Lions are 2-10 but were able to keep the majority of their games close, having only been outscored by a total of 28 points all season long. Unfortunately, the frustration of another dismal season is starting to take its toll as they have been outscored by 41 points in their last three games.

Green Bay is 7-2 ATS in its last nine games against the Lions and 4-0 ATS in the last four games in Detroit. Give the Lions credit for continuing to fight the good fight, but think they have run out of bullets for this one. The Pick: Green Bay -7

Tampa Bay (-2) @ Washington

The Buccaneers season hangs in the balance this week given the fact that, at 7-5 another loss would pretty much end any shot at making the postseason. Last week’s 28-24 loss to Atlanta was extremely painful after they blew a 10-point lead heading into the final quarter.

A Redskins season that started with such optimism has turned sour with four losses in their last five games. They currently have an offense that is ranked 20th in the league overall and 28th in scoring and a defense that is ranked dead last in the league overall and 23rd in points allowed.

Tampa Bay is 3-1-1 ATS in its last five games against the Redskins and 5-1 ATS in its last six games overall. Washington is 1-3-1 ATS in its last five games as a home underdog. The Bucs keep the dream alive for at least one more week with a big win on the road. The Pick: Tampa Bay -2

New England (-3) @ Chicago

The Patriots left little doubt as to which team still rules the AFC East with a 45-3 thrashing of the New York Jets on Monday night. Given that their overall record is now 10-2, it would be easy to make the argument they are the best team in the league.

The Bears are 9-3 and 5-0 in their last five games, but still have a number of question marks especially on the offensive side of the ball. The offense remains ranked 29th overall in the league; 26th in passing and 22nd in rushing. They are ranked 21st in scoring; averaging 20.5 points per game.

New England is 6-2 ATS in its last eight games in December and 6-2-1 in its last nine games overall. Chicago is 1-6-1 ATS in its last eight games in December. The Bears third-ranked defense gets tested again, but this time fails. The Pick: New England -3
