NFL Week 2 – Over/Under Picks

Top 3 NFL Over/Under Plays of the Week

Solid defense along with some sloppy offense was, for the most part, the name of the game in Week 1 as 11 of the 16 games stayed ‘under’ the total. Scoring was so low that the average total for all 16 games was just 36.6 points. Offensive powers New Orleans, Indianapolis, and San Diego combined for just 52 points, and average of just 17.3 points per team. The big question for Week 2 is will this trend continue, or will the offensive side of the ball start to gel an begin to put some serious points on the board?

Here is a look at my top three plays on the ‘Over/Under’ line for Week 2 in the NFL. All total lines are provided by Sportsbook.com

vs.

Tampa Bay @ Carolina Over/Under: 39

Tampa Bay scored 17 points in its win over Cleveland last week as second year QB Josh Freeman threw for 182 yards and two TD’s. Even more impressive was the Buc’s defense that held the Browns to just 340 yards total offense and 14 points.

Carolina not only lost the game to the Giants, it lost its starting QB Matt Moore to a concussion at the end of the game. It was a performance that Moore will hopefully forget as he only managed to complete 42.4 percent of his passes, threw three interceptions, and ended the day with a dismal passer rating of just 32.6. He is currently listed as questionable for this week’s game.

The total has stayed ‘under’ in all eight of the Buccaneers last eight games and in six of the Panthers last eight. In this series, the total has stayed ‘under’ in five of the last six games played in Carolina.

The Pick: UNDER

vs.

Baltimore @ Cincinnati Over/Under: 39 ½

Baltimore’s defense completely smothered the N.Y. Jets last Monday night, holding them to just 176 total yards and a paltry 60 yards in the air. Offensively, the Ravens had their struggles as well, scoring just 10 points in the one point win.

Cincinnati put up huge numbers on offense with 428 total yards, 341 passing yards, and 24 points, but most these were accumulated long after New England had put the game out of reach by building a 31 -3 lead early in the second half.

The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of Baltimore’s last eight road games and in eight of the Raven’s last 10 games against teams in the AFC. The total has also stayed ‘under’ in four of the last five games between these two teams.

The Pick: UNDER

vs.

Jacksonville @ San Diego Over/Under: 45 ½

Last week against Denver, Jacksonville’s David Garrard showed that he can still play quarterback in this league. He was not flashy, but efficient in completing 16-of-21 attempts for 170 yards but more importantly he threw three TD’s in the Jaguars 24-17 win.

San Diego’s offense sputtered last week in a2 1-14 upset loss to Kansas City as the absence of its No. 1 receiver Vincent Jackson appeared to take its toll. There are few teams in the NFL that adjust to adversity better than the Chargers as they always seem to find a way to get back on track.

Both these teams have a tendency to put a ton of points on the board in the month of September. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of the Jaguars last six games and in nine of the Chargers last 11 games played in this month. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of San Diego’s last five home games.

The Pick: OVER
