NFL Week 2 Preview, Match Ups & Predictions
Week 2 of the 2010-11 NFL season kicks into high gear with a full Sunday lineup including my pick for Game of the Week between the Giants and the Colts. Here I take a look at the matchups that may prove decisive in early divisional positioning battles.

SUN, SEP 19 TIME (ET)
Miami at Minnesota 1:00 PM CBS –The ‘ Purple People Eaters’ will surely want to ring in spanking new Mall of America Field with a win over Tony Sparano’s squad. This will be an early season test run for the Fins offense as the go against a very talented Minnesota front four.
Arizona at Atlanta 1:00 PM FOX – Atlanta will be searching for a little retribution after being knocked out of the 2008 postseason by Arizona. However, new QB Matt Leinart and the receiving duo of Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston will be a force to try and contain for the Falcons secondary.
Baltimore at Cincinnati 1:00 PM CBS – The Bengals beat the Ravens in both of their meetings last season, so expect a little pay back as Baltimore tries to quiet the home crowd by suffocating the Cincinnati offense while chasing down Palmer with their tenacious D.
Kansas City at Cleveland 1:00 PM CBS –The Chiefs won’t forget what happened at Arrowhead last December when tight end Brad Cottam had his neck broken by Cleveland safety Abram Elam and high by outside linebacker Matt Roth. Meanwhile, the Browns will get a great opportunity to begin their 2010-11 by going 2-0. After playing the Bucs in Week 1 the Dog Pound will try at take advantage of the Kansas City Chiefs who finished fourth worst in 2009.
Chicago at Dallas 1:00 PM FOX – Can the Cowboys become the first team to play in the Super Bowl without leaving town? Dallas would be the first team to play in a Super Bowl hosted in their own stadium, but first they will have to discover if QB Jay Cutler, DE Julius Peppers and RB Chester Taylor were worth Chicago’s complete surrender of draft picks.
Philadelphia at Detroit 1:00 PM FOX –Quarterback Shaun Hill led his team to a two-win season in 2009, and believe it our not that’s an accomplishment. The Eagles’ Kevin Kolb will have his best opportunity to shine early on in the season while rookie DE Brandon Graham will take the field in his hometown.
Buffalo at Green Bay 1:00 PM CBS – Whoever it is, Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm –they better take notes. Rodgers and Co. shouldn’t have any problems rolling over the Bills, whose passing attack was nothing short of embarrassing even with the likes of TO.
Pittsburgh at Tennessee 1:00 PM CBS –The offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers has proven to be more dangerous than anything that occurs in the fall, as the Steelers add to their growing list of injuries. The Titans will get the trifecta. No Ben Roethlisberger, good weather and home field advantage. The run game should prove effective in getting them an early season win.
Tampa Bay at Carolina 1:00 PM FOX – An early divisional match up will test the effectiveness of the Bucs defense as Roy Miller and rookie Gerald McCoy try to stop the Panthers rushing duo of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.
Seattle at Denver 4:05 PM FOX – Who will it be? QB’s Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn or rookie Tim Tebow will get the chance to beat up on Seattle’s puny secondary. The Broncos get the opportunity to jump out to an early lead in the AFC West and barring a repeat meltdown of 2009, maybe even give a “Tomlinsonless” Chargers a run at winning the division.
St. Louis at Oakland 4:05 PM FOX – Thhis could have been a quarterback battle featuring two No. 1 overall draft picks with Sam Bradford vs. JaMarcus Russell, but it’s probably going to be Bradford against Bruce Gradkowski. The Rams secondary receivers will have to step up in this one, as Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha will blanket St Louis’ top wide out Donnie Avery.
New England at NY Jets 4:15 PM CBS – There was a time when the Pats dominated their divisional foes, but those days are over. The two teams split a pair of meetings last season as New York narrowly missed taking top honors in the AFC East, and will want to get the early jump with a win at home.
Jacksonville at San Diego 4:15 PM CBS – It’s unlikely that Jacksonville, a team that concluded the 2009 season with four loses, will pull off a road upset at San Diego, even without LaDanian Tomlinson.
Houston at Washington 4:15 PM CBS – A powerful offense vs. a spirited defense as the Redskins hosts its second Lone Star state opponent in as many weeks. It will be interesting to see just how important Washington offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was to Houston QB Matt Schaub the past two years. I hope the DC secondary is ready for this explosive Texans’ offense.
NY Giants at Indianapolis 8:20 PM NBC – The Colts’ ageing o-line will be tested early in this Manning v Manning match up. The G-Men front four should be able to put enough pressure on the older sibling forcing him out of the pocket and into uncharted waters. The last time the two faced off — in the Week 1 of 2006, the older Manning came away victorious on his way to winning Super Bowl XLI.
MON, SEP 20 TIME (ET)
New Orleans at San Francisco 8:30 PM – Alex Smith will need to play his best if he wants to out-gun 2009 Super bowl winner and MVP Drew Brees in San Francisco’s home-opener. Can the Saints defense contain 49ers RB Frank Gore and WR Michael Crabtree? Or will the same New Orleans defense that failed to hold on to huge leads last season raise its ugly head.
