NFL Week 3 Preview

NFL Week 3 Preview, Match Ups & Predictions

Week 3 of the 2010-11 NFL season kicks into high gear with a full schedule, as teams should have begun to settle into an early rhythm. My pick for Game of the Week has got to be the Dallas Cowboys at the Houston Texans. This in-state rivalry gets hotter as the two teams battle for supremacy of the Lone Star State. Here I take a look at the matchups, giving you some early insight that will help make your 2010 NFL wagers winners.

SUN, SEP 26 TIME (ET)

San Francisco at Kansas City 1:00 PM FOX – The 49ers defense will have their hands full with Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles, while rookie DB Eric Berry wrecks havoc on the San Francisco passing attack.

Detroit at Minnesota 1:00 PM FOX – The Lions have proven they are no longer the kittens they used to be, and wide out Calvin Johnson could keep the Minnesota secondary on their toes in this divisional match. Nevertheless it’s hard to see the Vikings losing this one at home.

Buffalo at New England 1:00 PM CBS – With Wes Walker sidelined one has to wonder if by Week 3 we might see TO in a Pats uniform. Either way Tom Brady along with an improved New England secondary should have no problems containing a weaker Bills team, especially at home.

Atlanta at New Orleans 1:00 PM FOX – This may end closer than most might think as the Falcons nimble defense could put enough pressure on Saints QB Drew Brees to slow him down a bit. But ultimately New Orleans should come away with an early-season divisional win in the Big Easy.

Tennessee at NY Giants 1:00 PM CBS – The Titans last trip to the Big Apple ended in a 24-17 loss to the Jets. I‘m sure that Tennessee will want to reverse that trend when they visit the new Meadowlands co-tenants. As long as Eli Manning keeps the ball away from CB Cortland Finnegan, the G-Men should come away winners.

Cleveland at Baltimore 1:00 PM CBS – Without a real offensive or defensive attack, the Ravens should have no problem slicing through the Brown defense while holding them offensively to the least amount of yardage in a single game. This could be embarrassing for Cleveland.

Dallas at Houston 1:00 PM FOX – The battle for Texas rages on. One day after the Longhorns and Aggies do battle on the college front, the Texans will put their in-state rival to the test as they show the Cowboys that they are no longer walking in their shadows over their older sibling.

Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay 1:00 PM CBS – The Bucs would like to show the Steelers how good their aggressive pass rush is, but now they’ll have to waste it on Leftwich or Batch as the Steel Curtain won’t have their starting quarterback.

Cincinnati at Carolina 1:00 PM CBS – While Carolina will have their hands full trying to contain Cincinnati’s Ocho Cinco and Antonio Bryant along with the Bengals dynamic ground attack. The Bengals’ defense will need to put pressure on former Cincinnati Bearcats’ rookie quarterback Tony Pike forcing him out of protection and away from Steve Smith.

Philadelphia at Jacksonville 4:05 PM FOX  - After getting a first look at each other in Week 1 of the preseason, the Eagles will travel to balmy Florida in late September. If Jags safety Reggie Nelson can shut down Eagles speedster DeSean Jackson, Jacksonville could outlast the boys from the north in this one.

Washington at St. Louis 4:05 PM FOX - Rams top draft pick, rookie quarterback San Bradford will attempt to bring back the “Greatest Show on Turf” by taking advantage of a Redskins team that won just a single game on the road in 2009.

Indianapolis at Denver 4:15 PM CBS – There will be a bit of post season animosity swirling over this battle at Mile High as the Colts’ Peyton Manning tames the Broncs yet again in their own corral.

Oakland at Arizona 4:15 PM CBS – The only way the Cardinals could lose its home-opener against the Raiders, is if someone parades a line of Arizona State cheerleaders in front of Matt Lienarts face. Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will have a busy day, as his job will be to cover a slippery Larry Fitzgerald.

San Diego at Seattle 4:15 PM CBS – The reintroduction of an old rivalry from the Seahawks’ days in the AFC West. While none of the current players on either team took part in the bad blood back then, the fans don’t forget.

NY Jets at Miami 8:20 PM NBC – Fins QB Chad Pennington will face of against his former team in this AFC East rivalry. The Jets will be looking to avenge a pair of losses suffered just two weeks apart last season.

MON, SEP 27 TIME (ET)

Green Bay at Chicago 8:30 PM – The Packers should have little issues containing the Bears in this NFC North clash. Green Bay won both meetings back in 2009, including a preseason bout that saw quarterback Jay Cutler throw a career-worst four interceptions in a single game.
