NFL Week 8 – Top 3 Over/Under Plays

Last week the over was the best play as seven games went over their total while only five stayed under. One game, San Diego @ Kansas City was a push with a total line of 44. The results could have very easily been opposite as two games that should have stayed under went over the total on late touchdowns that had no impact on the outcome of the game. The Colts scored with a little over two minutes left in a game they led by 29 points and the Redskins, trailing by 17 scored a meaningless touchdown with just under two minutes remaining. In a wild one the Vikings and Steelers game almost went over when in the span of a few minutes in the 4th quarter 21 points were scored. Pittsburgh returned two turnovers for TD’s and Minnesota’s Percy Havin returned the kickoff after the first Steelers’ score for another TD. In the highest total of the year, the Saints and Dolphins put up 80 points as New Orleans came from 21 points behind to win 46-34. The following are my top three Over/Under picks for week seven.

Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets Current Over/Under 40.5

Miami will try and use a ball control offense with a running game that is ranked 2nd in the league averaging 170 yards per game. This is because that even though the Jets defense is ranked 10th overall, they are ranked 22nd against the run, giving up close to 120 yards per game. What will be difficult is for Dolphin QB Chad Henne to try and win this game throwing the ball. The Dolphins’ passing offense is ranked 26th, while the Jets are only giving up an average of 181 passing yards per game, 7th best in the league. Turning to the Jets offense the numbers are somewhat similar. They are ranked 1st in the league on the ground, led by All Pro RB Thomas Jones, but are struggling through the air with rookie QB Mark Sanchez and are ranked 29th in passing yards per game. All of this adds up to a lot of running plays that will help chew up the clock and keep the scoring down. Take the UNDER in this game. Click Here to Buy NFL Picks.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans Current Over/Under 45

After starting 0-6 the Titans may turn to QB Vince Young in this game to try and generate some offense for a team that is ranked 27th in points per game. In their last three games they have scored a total of 26 points and were shut out in their most recent outing 59-0 by the Patriots. It is hard to put your finger on exactly what went wrong with a team that was 13-3 last season, but I do not think Young will be the answer. The Jaguars have been an up and down team this year, but at 3-3 they are still in a position to make a run at the playoffs. Their points per game haven’t been much better as they are ranked 21st overall.  While they are ranked 11th in yards per game they obviously have not be able to convert this production into points which is why I expect a low scoring contest. Stay with the UNDER in this one. Click Here to Buy NFL Picks.

New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles Current Over/Under 44.5

Neither one of these team’s offense has looked all that good the last few games, but all that can change in a minute as they are more than capable of putting points on the board. The Giants are averaging 28 points per game, good for 6th in the league, while the Eagles are ranked 7th averaging 27 points per game. Both quarterbacks, Eli Manning for New York and Donovan McNabb for Philadelphia love to throw the deep ball, looking for the quick six. Eagle’s WR DeSean Jackson leads the league in big play touchdowns and is averaging 20 yards per reception. Both teams also have a defense that is capable of generating turnovers and scoring points as well which should only add to the scoring total. Look for some big plays in all three phases of the game as both teams will pull out all the stops to get a win. This one will go OVER. Click Here to Buy NFL Picks.
