Philadelphia Eagles 2010 Odds, Preview, and Predictions

Philadelphia Eagles Current odds to win: Division: +275 Conference: 19-2 Super Bowl: 18-1

Philadelphia was second in the NFC East last year with a 11-5 record. They were 6-2 at home and 5-3 on the road. They went 4-2 in the division and 9-3 in the conference.

They lost to the Dallas Cowboys 34-14 in the Wildcard Round of the playoffs.

Philadelphia Eagles Outlook for 2010

For the first time in 11 years head coach Andy Reid will have not have Donovan McNabb as his starting quarterback heading into the start of the season. With McNabb traded to Washington this offseason, Reid will turn to four year veteran Kevin Kolb. After yet another disappointing end in the postseason perhaps it was time for change, but like they always say, “Be careful what you wish for”.

Kolb did get some on the job training last season, starting a few games while McNabb recovered from a concussion. In his brief tenure he proved one thing; he does have an NFL arm. He became the first NFL QB to throw for over 300 yards in each of his first two starts which may be the reason the Eagles felt McNabb was expendable. He has one of the most electrifying receivers in the league; DeSean Jackson and an up and coming superstar; Jeremy Maclin to throw the ball to. The big question for Philly will be their ability to establish a running game.

After losing their longtime defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, who died of cancer before the start of the 2009 season and long time team leader S Brian Dawkins, who signed with Denver as a free agent the Eagles defensive never seemed to be on the same page last year. With another year of experience under new coordinator and Johnson protégé; Sean McDermott, expect this unit to be back performing at a high level in 2010. There are some questions in the secondary, but as a whole this is still a solid defense.

With all the changes on this team, the Eagles could either run away with the East or fall off the map. I see them ending up somewhere in between. Reid is still one of the top coaches in the league and there is enough talent on this team to win on a consistent basis.

2010 Philadelphia Eagles Prediction: 9-7, 2nd place in the NFC East.
