The 2008 season for the Seattle Seahawks was a disaster. It seemed the entire group of wide receivers was out injured, and new players were brought in weekly. Quarterback Matt Hassleback played injured and missed most of the season. Head coach Mike Holmgren was filling out the last year of his contract and already had his replacement, Jim Mora, in place. The team was miserable on both sides of the ball, ranking 25 th in scoring and 25 th in points allowed. The team ranked dead last in defending the pass, giving up nearly 260 yards per game.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 2009 PREVIEW

The Seahawks only pulled down 4 wins last season, and they had 15 starters who had to sit out last year. Two year head coach Jim Mora has been looking for a different avenue to victory, but last years losses provided enemy teams with knowledge of different gaps in the Seahawks styles.

Seattle Seahawks 2009 Preview, Picks, & Odds.

The main issue the 2009 Seattle Seahawks have to contend with is their defense, and newfound defensive coordinator Casey Bradley will have to kick it up a notch if the Seahawks are going to stick in the game. The offensive string was faced with trouble last season, due to a number of injuries, but players have recovered and returned. Greg Knapp, formor Raiders offensive coordinator, will start his first year with the Seahawks as the offensive coordinator. Knapp will have to keep his offense tight if the Seahawks plan to keep scoring. Robert Prince begins his tenure as the widereceiver’s coach of the Seahawks. Prince spent a lot of time in the collegiate, and most recently he spent two years with the Atlanta Falcons as the offensive assistant. Dan Quinn was recently hired as the Defensive line coach, bringing with him his experience from the 49ers and the Miami Dolphins. Mike Phair was also hired fresh to be Quinn’s assistant. Tim Lewis was the final addition to the coaching staff for the Seatle Seahawks 2009 season, and he will be in charge of the defensive backs. According to the 2009 Seattle Seahawks Season Preview, they may be able to pull off some more wins this year.

2009 SEATTLE SEAHAWKS OFFENSE:

The running game will be focused on Julius Jones this season, as Maurice Morris is no longer on the club. The team believes he can carry a full time load and be successful, and he’ll be facing a hopefully much softer defense with the return of a healthy Matt Hassleback. Hassleback will have a number 1 wide receiver amongst his weapons finally, with the signing of free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Deion Branch should be a reliable number 2 option with Houshmandzadeh drawing the coverage in his direction. If all four of the above players stay healthy, the Seahawks offense has the potential to be quite potent in 2009.

2009 SEATTLE SEAHAWKS DEFENSE:

Lofa Tatupu will have a new standout on his linebacking unit, in top draft pick Aaron Curry. The Seahawks therefore felt comfortable trading away Julian Peterson in return for defensive tackle Cory Redding. The Seahawks also moved towards shoring up the line, replacing departed Rocky Bernard and providing some support for defensive end Patrick Kerney by signing defensive tackle Colin Cole. The defense should have more depth upfront and in the middle and should be sturdier and stingier.
