St. Louis Rams Outlook for 2010

This team went from winning three games in 2007, two games in 2008, to winning just one game last year. At this pace they threaten to rival the Detroit Lions dubious record by not winning any games in 2010. Fortunately for St. Louis that should not be the case as they are actually taking some solid steps to turning the team around. Head coach Steve Spagnuolo is entering his second season with the optimism that his team will be far more competitive this season than they were the previous three.

By taking Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford with the first overall pick of the draft, the Rams are hoping they have found the solution to this position for many years to come. He will undergo a baptism by fire this season, but he does have all the tools to be a great one in this league. Fortunately they still have Stephen Jackson in the backfield to help take some pressure off of Bradford by providing a solid running attack. Spagnuolo has actually stated that A.J Feely will be the starting quarterback come opening day but do not expect that to last too long as Bradford should get his shot fairly early in the season.

The Rams used six of their 11 draft picks on the defensive side of the ball in an effort to add some depth to a unit that was ranked 29th in total yards allowed and 31st in total points allowed. They also re-signed one of their best players S Oshiomogho Atogwe to a five year deal after he became an unrestricted free agent. Having him back keeps a huge presence in the defensive secondary intact for the next several years.

St. Louis is still in the early stages of a major rebuilding process but they are adding the right pieces to the puzzle. They will not be ready to compete for the division this season, but do not be surprised if they pull off a few upsets along the way.

2010 St. Louis Rams Prediction: 5-11, fourth place in the NFC West.
