Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2010 NFL Record: 10-6 Home: 4-4 Away: 6-2

Tampa Bay finished third in the NFC South last year with a 10-6 record. The Buccaneers were 4-4 at home and 6-2 on the road. They went 3-3 in the division and 8-4 in the conference.

They failed to qualify for the postseason.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2011 Preview

Head Coach Raheem Morris bounced back from a disastrous 3-13 record in his first year at the helm with a solid 10-win season in 2010. The dramatic turnaround can be attributed to a much more consistent effort from a team that was only two seasons removed from winning a division title. The downside to this reversal of fortunes is that the Buccaneers will not be able sneak up on anyone and must play a schedule that is sprinkled with some of the best teams in the league.

If Tampa Bay wants to seriously compete against Atlanta and New Orleans this year, third-year veteran Josh Freeman is going to have to continue to develop as a legitimate bigtime quarterback in the NFL. He completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 3,451 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2010 after completing just 54.5 percent of his throws as a rookie in 2009. He is backed up with the eighth-best rushing attack in the league led by RB LeGarrette Blount, who rushed for 1,007 yards last season as an undrafted rookie out of Oregon. As a whole, this unit will also have to do a better job at putting points on the board after averaging just 21.3 a game in 2010.

Morris decided to turn his attention to the defense in this year’s draft by using five of his first seven picks on this side of the ball. The Bucs selected defensive lineman Adrian Clayborn with the 20th overall pick and stole DE Da’Quan Bowers late in the second round. These two will be counted on to improve a pass rush that was tied for 30th in sacks last season with a total of 26. They also added LB Mason Foster in the third round and SS Ahmad Black in the fifth to continue to build depth across the entire unit.

Tampa Bay feasted on some of the have-nots in the league to get to 10 wins last season, but will not have that luxury against a much tougher schedule this year. The Buccaneers remain competitive throughout the entire 2011 season, but take a small step backwards in the win column.
