The Texans got an important victory shutting out Tennessee last week. They also got good news when WR Andre Johnson wasn’t suspended for his tussle with Cortland Finnegan. Even with Johnson they will need another command performance if they want to stay in the AFC South race. Right now it is all bunched up with two teams each at 6-5 and 5-6. The key to continuing their winning ways will be the defense. With Matt Schaub, Johnson and RB Arian Foster the Texans can score but against Mike Vick and the Eagles they will need to get some critical stops to grab the victory. The shutout last week was unexpected, but not shocking considering they were facing a rookie QB making his first start. This week the D will be challenged much more.
Vick had his first ho-hum game of the year and the Eagles couldn’t get it done against the Bears last week. Amazingly he waited this long to toss his first interception of the season. Although Vick wasn’t perfect it was really the defense that let the team down. On offense the Bears struggle to run and turnover the ball but last Sunday Jay Cutler hit for four TDs with no picks and Matt Forte burst for more than 100 yards. Now they face Schaub and Foster who are a much more fearsome duo. If the defense can’t slow the Texans than it may not matter what Vick does.
Both of these teams are in a dogfight for their division with little room for a letdown. The Texans are still trying to prove they are a playoff team but every year they seem to trip up somewhere. Going into Philly is a tough win for any team, especially the way Vick has the offense rolling these days. A win seems unlikely but with the hefty spread a cover is likely.
Game Prediction: I feel pretty confident that this will be a shootout with the Eagles playing most of the game just a bit ahead of the Texans. Look for Vick and Schaub to trade jabs all afternoon. If you have Eagles or Texans on your fantasy team you should play them.
Score Prediction:
Philadelphia – 38
Houston – 35
The spread is -9 for the Eagles…The Texans are a strong underdog play.
