NHL Game Preview for Wednesday December 7, 2011: Philadelphia Flyers @ Buffalo Sabres

Sports Betting Overview
Buffalo Sabres’ head coach Lindy Ruff is the longest tenured coach in the NHL. He has been with the Buffalo Sabres for 13 years as a head coach. When Ruff played for the Sabres, the fans loved his enthusiasm and energy. But as a coach, Ruff’s team does not play with anywhere near that same intensity. The need to sit key players such as Drew Stafford last year and Tyler Myers this year indicates that something is not right in Buffalo. The strong feelings that the fans in Buffalo have for Ruff is starting to be tempered by the promises from new owner Terry Pegula that the Sabres’ only reason for existing is to win a Stanley Cup. Many fans are starting to wonder how the team can do that with a coach who has never won a Cup himself.

The pay per head sportsbook hockey observers are trying to figure the Philadelphia Flyers out. After letting key forwards Jeff Carter and Mike Richards go in the off-season, the Flyers brought in veteran Jaromir Jagr. While Jagr is having a good season, he is not making up for the offensive output lost when those other two players were let go. The Flyers finally feel like it has the goaltender it needs in veteran Ilya Bryzgalov obtained in the off-season, but the acquisition of Bryzgalov has not done as much to stabilize the goaltending job as Philly had hoped it would. Second-year goalie Sergei Bobrovsky is outplaying Bryzgalov, and the Flyers may be forced to admit that Bobrovsky is not only the goalie of the future, but also the goalie of the present.

Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres are a disorganized mess on the ice that is managing to stay in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt. The prolonged injury to goaltender Ryan Miller thanks to a Milan Lucic hit a couple of weeks ago has sparked a goaltending controversy in Buffalo. Backup Jhonas Enroth has stepped in and proved to be more consistent that Miller, but that does not make the Sabres a better team. The Sabres seemed to get a boost when nine rookies had to be called up to play in place of several injured Sabres. But after a week with the big team, the price per head bookie sports experts have noticed that the Sabres are playing the same listless hockey it was playing earlier in the season.

Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers are trailing the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference standings and have not played well as of late. The Flyers were blanked 2-0 by the Rangers late last week and have not been putting the puck in the net on a consistent basis. The problems in net are compounding the disorganized look to the Flyers’ offense. But a game against Buffalo could be just what the Flyers need to snap out of their current funk.

The Bottom Line
When Buffalo forward Ville Leino played for the Flyers, he was an average forward that scored 19 goals last season. In a Buffalo uniform, he is on a pace to score less than 10 goals this season. Something in Buffalo needs to change, but it won’t change before this game.
