UFC – Matyushenko vs Jones Preview

UFC Odds -Vladamir Matyushenko is Jon Jones’ Next Victim

The UFC is holding it second Versus Network card on Saturday night and once again it features the beast that is known as Jon Jones. He will be looking to ascend to the very top of the UFC Light Heavyweight division but a very game Vladamir Matyushenko stands in his way.

UFC – UFC on Versus 2
August 1, 2010 - San Diego Sports Arena,
San Diego, California, United States
Broadcast: Versus Network

Jon Jones (10-1): -600
Vladimir Matyushenko (24-4): +400

Well, the UFC oddsmakers sure seem to have a feeling who is going to win this fight as so does the betting public. The fact is that Jon Jones is a destructive force who, despite one loss on his record, has totally dominated every opponent that he has been in the Octagon with. Vladamir Matyushenko certainly offers a challenge but how much of one is being debated far and wide.

Jon Jones is an MMA specimen. He comes from a wrestling background but has seamlessly adapted his skills to become a legitimate threat to the elite in the UFC Light Heavyweight division. He`s big, fast, strong is terrific on his feet and lethal when he takes you down. Most of all however, Jones is a student of the fight game and respects every aspect of it – from training to fight planning to executing inside the Octagon.

Jon Jones is an MMA sponge who will take what he has learned and beat you standing, in the clinch and on the ground. The one place that Jones has never been however is on his back, defending someone else`s Top Game.

Enter Vladamir Matyushenko, the MMA veteran who has hung around the Light Heavyweight division but has been unable to break through in a big way. Matyushenko is predominantly a wrestler who has developed a strong stand up game along the way. He`s shown top form (a victory against Antonio Roguiero Nouguiera) and has demonstrated some disappointing form with losses to lower calibre fighters.

Matyushenko has said that he would love to keep this fight standing to knock out the Prospect but he would be well served to try to take this fight to the ground and to get on top of Jones where his comfort level might not be where it needs to be. Once on top, Matyushenko should be able to dictate the fight and stay out of Jones` many danger areas.

UFC Odds Forecast:

Give Vladamir Matyushenko some credit for stepping into the Octagon with arguably the most feared fighter in MMA. For Vlad to be successful, he is going to have to get inside, eat a few huge shots and try to take Jones down. The big question is IF he can survive the shots that he is going to have to take. I have my doubts that Matyushenko will be able to absorb any of what Jones is capable of dishing out. Once Jones finds his range, and he will, Vlad will be taken down and pummelled.

UFC Odds Pick: Jon Jones -600 by 1st Round TKO
