2010 NBA Pacific Division PreviewWelcome to the best and most complete 2010 NBA Pacific Division Season Preview available online. The teams that make up our 2010-2011 NBA Pacific Season Preview are the are the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings.

Bryant is still the best player in the game and is the ultimate clutch player. If the Lakers’ Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom can stay healthy, adding to the likes of Pau Gasol, who has affirmed his status as an elite player, and Derek Fisher who is probably one of the league’s most unsung closers, this is still the Lake Show. There is no one in the division that should come close to the Lakers with the exception of the Phoenix Suns who have gained a year of experience but have lost the services of big man Amar’e Stoudemire. Sacramento and Golden State have exciting young players but they are fringe playoff contenders at best. With the addition of Blake Griffin the Clippers should improve, but will be a distant 30-win team.

2010 Golden State Warriors Season Preview

Golden State Warriors Season PreviewGolden State went 26-56 last season, as this franchise continues its decade-and-a-half-Iong hump through the doldrums. Putting the ball in the hole, of course, is not the Warriors’ problem, as they ranked eighth in shooting at 47% and averaged 109 ppg; but they also ranked 29th in FG defense at 48.5% and dead last in rebounding at a ridiculous -9.7 per game, as they allowed more points than any other team. Thanks in part to low expectations, though, the Warriors managed to go 47-34 ATS. While Golden State games averaged 221 points, most in the league, they only went 40-42 on the totals. Uncertainty hovers around this team going into the season. New ownership may want to make changes and who would blame them? The Warriors will be led by Gs Monta Ellis (25.5 ppg) and Stephen Curry (17.5 ppg) and, while they traded F Corey Maggette, they picked up F David Lee (20 ppg/12 rpg last year with New York). They also got 6-foot-10 F Ekpe Udoh with the sixth pick in the draft, but he had offseason wrist surgery and might not be available until January. Whatever the case, it’s hard to see Golden State competing for a playoff spot this season.

2010 Los Angeles Clippers Season Preview

Los Angeles Clippers Season PreviewThe Clippers went 29-53 last year and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight season. They made a 10-victory improvement over the previous campaign
but Coach Dunleavy didn’t even last the season. The lesser Los Angeles team ranked 20th in shooting at 45.5%, 21st in FG defense at 47% and 13th in rebounding, which is how they went 35-46 ATS. This offseason, the Clippers let Fs Drew Gooden and Travis Outlaw and G Steve Blake go, and brought in Fs Ryan Gomes and Brian Cook and G Randy Foye. Whether that makes them better is up for debate. They get some good news, though, with the debut of F Blake Griffin, the former No. 1 overall pick who missed his rookie season with a knee injury. He’ll join a starting lineup that also includes Gs Eric Gordon (17 ppg) and Baron Davis (15 ppg/8 apg) and C Chris Kaman (18.5 ppg/9 rpg). L.A. also wound up with two of the top 18 picks in the draft: 6-foot-9 F Al-Farouq Aminu and G Eric Bledsoe. While the Clippers and new Coach Del Negro might raise last year’s win total, a run to the playoffs is asking a lot.

2010 Los Angeles Lakers Season Preview

Los Angeles Lakers Season PreviewThe Lakers won a West-best 57 games last year, dispatched of Oklahoma City, Utah and Phoenix to win their third straight conference title, and outlasted Boston to successfully defend their league championship, Los Angeles only ranked 18th in shooting at just under 46%, but fifth in FG defense at 45% and eighth in rebounding at +21 per game. They also went just 34-46 ATS, and 16-24 ATS at home, allowing a bunch of back-door covers. L.A.’s OVER/UNDERs were apparently regularly overestimated, because even though Lakers games averaged 199 points – just below the league average – their totals went 34-46. This season, L.A. is the obvious choice to win the West again. G Kobe Bryant (27 ppg), 15 seasons into his pro career, remains a deciding factor and his supporting cast of Andrew Bynum and Fs Pau Gasol, Ron Artest and Lamar Odom combined for 55 points and 34 boards per game last year. This offseason, L.A. wisely bolstered the bench by adding G Steve Blake, F Matt Barnes and C Theo Ratliff, because both Bryant and Bynum are coming off knee surgeries. They should be ready and hungry because this team would love to win a third straight title.

2010 Phoenix Suns Season Preview

Phoenix Suns Season PreviewPhoenix surprised many observers by winning 54 games last year, beating Portland in the first round of the playoffs and sweeping San Antonio out of the conference semis before bowing to the Lakers in the conference finals. The Suns led the league in scoring at 110 ppg, shooting at just over 49% and 3-point marksmanship at 41%, and ranked 11th in FG defense at 45% and 14th in rebounding, all in going 48-32 ATS. Even though Phoenix played the second-highest scoring games in the league, averaging 216 points, their totals went 36-43 because those totals were often listed at 220 and above. The big news out of Arizona this offseason was the departure of F Amar’e Stoudemire, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder last season. In response, the Suns brought in Fs Josh Childress, Hedo Turkoglu and Hakeem Warrick. Steve Nash (16.5 ppg/11 apg) still runs a good show, although his broken noses are adding up. Jason Richardson has seen his production drop, and Grant Hill will be 38. With Stoudemire gone, Phoenix might have a tougher time on the boards. While the Suns should make the playoffs again, a return trip to the conference finals will be tough.

2010 Sacramento Kings Season Preview

Sacramento Kings Season PreviewIn its first season under new Coach Westphal last year, Sacramento won 13 of its first 27 games, but things began to go south, and the Kings traded G Kevin Martin. They finished at 25-57 and missed the playoffs for the fourth-straight season, but 25 wins was eight more than the season before. The Kings ranked 19th in FG shooting at 46%, 20th in FG defense at 47% and 15th in rebounding, all in going 39-40 ATS. They did manage to go 22-17 ATS on the road, however. Even though Sacramento games averaged 204 points, 10th-most in the league, their totals played out 38-43. The future of the Kings now lies largely in the hands of G Tyreke Evans (20 ppg/6 apg/5 rpg), the league’s reigning Rookie of the Year. F Carl Landry (18 ppg/6.5 rpg in 28 games with the Kings last year) looks like an up-and-comer, and they added C Samuel Dalembert (almost 10 rpg last year with Philly) in a trade and grabbed 6-foot-11 C DeMarcus Cousins with the fifth pick in the draft. Westphal is no slouch on the bench and Sacramento may well improve upon its 25 wins of last season, but they won’t make the playoffs.
