2009 Record: 9-4 SEC Record: 5-3 2010 Returning Starters: 12: 6 Offense, 4 Defense, Kicker, Punter

Coach: Les Miles (LSU 51-15, 5 years)

Offensive Coordinators: Gary Crowton Defensive Coordinators: John Chavis

2010 LSU Players to Watch: QB Jordan Jefferson, RB Stevan Ridley, WR Terrence Toliver, WR Russell Shepard, CB Patrick Peterson, LB Kelvin Sheppard, DT Lazarius Levingston

2010 LSU Strengths:
Jefferson returns for his second full season as astarter. Renewed emphasis on the run bodes well for Ridley, Michael Ford and Richard Murphy. Amuch-improved defense should continue its aggressive play under second-year coordinator John Chavis.

2010 LSU Weaknesses:
There’s enough athletic skill to go around, but much of it comes with Inexperience. Peterson Is a superb comerback, but teams can avoid him, given that there are only three other returning defensive starters. Jefferson has an entirely new backfield with arevamped line and receiving corps.

2010 LSU Offense:

With a renewed emphasis on its running game, and a revitalization of its physical nature, LSD hopes to rebound from disheartening seasons of 8-5 and 9-4 that followed its 2007 BCS national championship. Junior quarterback Jordan Jefferson returns for his second full year as a starter after throwing 17 touchdown passes with seven interceptions last season. Jefferson completed 182 of 296 passes for 2,166 yards, but the playmaking support around him this year generally is untested. Injuries thrust hard-charging running back Stevan Ridley into the starting lineup for the last two games. The junior carried 45 times for 180 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Richard Murphy missed all but two games last season with a torn ACL in his left knee. Murphy has rushed for 440 yards and two touchdowns in his career. Freshman Michael Ford redshirted after having rushed for more than 200 yards in a game nine times as a senior at Leesville (La.) High School. Senior Terrence Toliver is the top returning receiver with 53 catches for 735 yards and three touchdowns. Touted sophomore Russell Shepard moved to wide receiver after playing sparingly as a backup quarterback last season.

2010 LSU Defense:

A revamped line features senior tackle Lazarius Levingston, who is the lone regular starter back from a year ago, although tackle Drake Nevis has ample experience and sophomore end Sam Montgomery appears ready for big things. The linebacking corps features senior Kelvin Sheppard, who made a team-high 110 stops last season. Juniors Ryan Baker and Stefoin Francois combined for 25 in supporting roles. Few defensive backs can match the coverage skills of junior Patrick Peterson, who made 52 tackles last season and returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown. He returned a blocked field goal for another score. Peterson held Julio Jones of national champion Alabama to three receptions last season and limited acclaimed Georgia receiver A.J. Green to four catches. Peterson ranked third in the SEC in passes defended with 15. Teams figure to throwaway from Peterson’s area, given that LSD has a newcomer at the other cornerback spot, sophomore Morris Claiborne. Junior Brandon Taylor is back at strong safety after starting nine games last season. Jai Eugene has 11 career starts, but none at free safety yet.

2010 LSU Special Teams:

Senior Josh Jasper made 17 of 20 field goal attempts last season while also handling kickoff chores and punting 15 times for a 37.3-yard average. Senior Derek Helton returns as the regular punter after averaging 40.0 yards on 46 attempts last season. Junior Ron Brooks is back to return kicks.

2010 LSU Predictions:

The Tigers must find some much-needed offensive firepower. They challenged Florida and Alabama last season before falling short. Defensive attrition creates concern, although Peterson’s presence is enough to bolster any backfield. Stamina and late-game dominance will be critical to the Tigers’ success.

That was a horrible game yesterday, what happened to the Giants ? Well done to Vick but honestly, the Giants wasted that more than the Birds earned it
