2010 Ole Miss Players to Watch: RB Brandon Bolden, WR Markeith Summers, OT Bradley Sowell, OT Bobby Massie, DE Kentrell Lockett, DT Jerrell Powe, LB Jonathan Cornell, SS Johnny Brown

2010 Ole Miss Strengths:
The Rebels return most of adefense that was one of the best in the SEC last season. Six starters and several key reserves return. UM has aparticularty veteran defensive line, with flve seniors who saw ample time last year.

2010 Ole Miss Weaknesses:
Ole Miss is replacing almost all of its offensive playmakers from ayear ago. The quarterback and receivers are particularly inexperienced. The Rebels are also trying to find two new starters along the interior offensive line.

2010 Ole Miss Offense:

Ole Miss is coming off 18 wins in the past two seasons but will need to almost totally revamp its offense to keep the good times rolling. Nathan Stanley, who played only sparingly last season behind Jevan Snead, emerges as the likely starter, although redshirt freshman Raymond Cotton could make the battle interesting if his shoulder holds up. Cotton was diagnosed with a partial tear in his labrum in the spring but opted to try to play through the pain. A wildcard could be junior college transfer Randall Mackey. He could be the perfect candidate to run the team’s Wild Rebel formation that’s been a success the past two seasons. Junior running back Brandon Bolden returns after rushing for 614 yards last season. Backups Rodney Scott and Enrique Davis also have experience. At receiver, the Rebels are hoping Markeith Summers and Jesse Grandy can emerge as starters. Summers caught four touchdown passes last season, while Grandy was a special teams star as a freshman, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns. On the line, the Rebels will lean on tackles Bradley Sowell and Bobby Massie, who return for the second season as starters. UM is still searching for depth on the interior line. Junior Rishaw Johnson and a trio of young linemen – Emmanuel McCray, A.J. Hawkins and Evan Swindall- have shown the most promise.

2010 Ole Miss Defense:

The Rebels are particularly strong along the line, where six of eight players on last year’s two-deep return. Coordinator Tyrone Nix has built a reputation for aggressive blitz packages, which helped Ole Miss sack the quarterback 36 times last season. Defensive tackle Jerrell Powe and defensive end Kentrell Lockett are the big names with likely NFL futures, combining for 22 tackles for a loss last season. Jonathan Cornell and Allen Walker, who are entering their third seasons as full-time starters, lead the linebackers. Cornell knows the defense inside and out, understanding the calls and formations nearly as well as the coaching staff. Sophomores Joel Kight and D.T. Shackelford should have increased roles after bursting onto the scene as freshmen. The Rebels have veteran safeties in seniors Johnny Brown and Fon Ingram. Junior college transfer Damien Jackson could also start. He was arguably the team’s most pleasant surprise of spring as he quickly picked up the defense and provided hardhitting run support.was the running backs coach last season) and this will still be a solid offense despite all the turnover at the skill positions.

2010 Ole Miss Special Teams:

The biggest question for Ole Miss is at kicker, where sophomore Bryson Rose steps into a starting role after learning for two seasons behind Joshua Shene. If Rose falters, the Rebels could also use Andrew Ritter or David Hankins. The Rebels return punter Tyler Campbell, who as a freshman ranked second in the SEC with a 44.0-yard average.

2010 Ole Miss Predictions:

The Rebels return a stout defense, which should certainly be able to keep them in most games. But if they’re going to go to a third straight bowl game, the young offense needs to develop quickly.
