With the 2010 NCAA college football season starting in just a few weeks it is time to take a look at which teams have the best chance to end up winning their conference and which teams are in for another long season. Today we take a look at all the teams in the Mid American Conference. Since there are no individual BCS odds to win a national title posted for any of these teams, they would all fall into the category of ‘the field` at plus 1500.

MAC East Division

Ohio Bobcats

Ohio Bobcats – Current odds to win a National Championship: +1500

2009- Overall record 9-5     Conference record 7-1        Home 4-3   Away 5-2

Ohio 2010 Outlook – Ohio returns a solid core of skill position players on offense including QB’s Phil Bates and Boo Jackson, who should both see substantial playing time this season. WR LaVon Brazil is also back along with RB Kenny Ashley, who is penciled in to replace Chris Garret. The defense returns several starters from last year and should once again be one of the best in the conference.

Temple Owls

Temple Owls - BSC Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 9-4     Conference record 7-1         Home 5-2   Away 4-2

Temple 2010 Outlook – The main force in Temple’s offense will be RB Bernard Pierce. Last season he ran for 1,361 yards on 236 carries and actually has a good chance at eclipsing these numbers in 2010. The defense, led by DE Adrian Robinson and LB Elijah Joseph returns seven starters from last year’s unit and will be the key to the Owl’s title hopes this season.

Bowling Green

Bowling Green Falcons - BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 7-6     Conference record 6-2         Home 3-3    Away 4-3

Bowling Green 2010 Outlook – The 2010 season will be a rebuilding process for the Falcons as only eight starters return from last year’s team. Tailback Willie Geter is one player to watch as he led the team last year in rushing with 705 yards and nine TD’s. The secondary should be the strength of the defense with the return of CB’s Keith Morgan and Adrien Spencer.

Kent State

Kent State Golden Flashes - BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 5-7       Conference record 4-4        Home 3-3   Away 2-4

Kent State 2010 Outlook – Tailback Eugene Jarvis, the fourth leading rusher in school history, was granted another year of eligibility after he missed most of last season with an injury. QB Spencer Keith, who threw for 2,147 yards as a true freshman should have a much bigger year in 2010. The Golden Flashes are one of those teams that have the capability of making an unexpected run at the MAC title this season.

Buffalo Bulls

Buffalo Bulls - BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 5-7       Conference record 3-5         Home 2-4     Away 3-3

Buffalo 2010 Outlook – Buffalo is stacked at the running back position with Brandon Thermilius and Jeffvon Gill. The Bulls also have a highly touted recruit named James Potts, who can some additional speed out of the backfield. On defense, keep an eye on S Davonte Shannon as he could be a legitimate NFL prospect.

Akron Zips

Akron Zips - BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 3-9      Conference record 2-6         Home 3-3     Away 0-6

Akron 2010 Outlook – Akron has two quality prospects at quarterback in Patrick Nicely and Matt Rodgers. Rodgers missed most of last season with an injury and Nicely filled in, throwing for 1,349 yards and six TD’s as a true freshman. On defense the Zips are switching back to a 4-3 scheme which should work better with the roster of players they currently have.

Miami Ohio Redhawks

Miami Ohio Redhawks - BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 1-11      Conference record 1-7         Home 1-5     Away 0-6

Miami Ohio 2010 Outlook – On offense, 10 starters return from last season including QB Zac Dysert. Dysert was basically the Redhawks entire offense last season throwing for 2,614 yards and running for another 248. The defense returns seven starters from last season and should be somewhat better with addition on transfer DE Jason Semmes and freshman DT John Steele.

Central Michigan Chippewas

Central Michigan Chippewas – BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 12-2        Conference record 8-0      Home 6-0    Away 6-2

Central Michigan 2010 Outlook – The 2010 season will be one of transition for the Chippewas as they have a new head coach in Dan Enos and a new starting QB in Ryan Radcliffe. With a mass exodus of talent in most of the skill positions it will be up to players like RB Paris Cotton and WR Kito Pablah to step up and fill the void. Unfortunately, there are just too many holes of both sides of the ball for this team to duplicate last season’s success.

Northern Illinois Huskies

Northern Illinois Huskies – BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 7-6         Conference record 5-3            Home 5-2     Away 2-4

Northern Illinois 2010 Outlook – Last year’s starting QB Chandler Harnish returns, but the real strength of this team is its running game led by Chad Spann. In 2009, Spann led the team with 1,038 yards on the ground and 19 TD’s. He will be joined by Jasmin Hopkins and Cameron Bell, giving the Huskies one of the most potent rushing attacks in the conference. Their nationally ranked defense from last season returns nine starters making this team one of the most balanced in the MAC.

Toledo Rockets

Toledo Rockets - BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 5-7             Conference record 3-5           Home 3-3     Away 2-4

Toledo 2010 Outlook – Toledo’s success in 2010 will revolve around the play of RB Morgan Williams and WR Eric Page. As a backup last season Williams rushed for 444 yards on 74 carries and Page led the team in receiving with 82 catches for 1,159 yards. The Rockets need to play much better on defense as statistically they were one of the worst in the conference in 2009. With several talented young players stepping up to starting roles this season, there should be some improvement.

Western Michigan Broncos

Western Michigan Broncos – BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 5-7              Conference record 4-4             Home 3-2      Away 2-5

Western Michigan 2010 Outlook – QB Alex Carder is the likely candidate to replace Tim Hiller, but that task will not be easy. He will have some quality receivers to throw the ball to in Robert Arnheim, Jordan White and Cheb Ravenell. The defense will almost have to be rebuilt from the ground up with several new faces filling starting roles for the first time.

Ball State Cardinals - BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 2-10               Conference record 2-6              Home 0-6     Away 2-4

Ball State 2010 Outlook – Kelly Page is projected to be the starting quarterback, but do not be surprised to see Aaron Mershman or Keith Wenning take over if Page gets off the a slow start. RB MiQuale Lewis is poised for a big year after missing most of 2009 due to injury. S Sean Backer leads a defense that should be somewhat improved over last year’s but still questionable at best.

Eastern Michigan Eagles

Eastern Michigan Eagles – BCS Championship Odds: +1500

2009- Overall record 0-12               Conference record 0-8               Home 0-5     Away 0-7

Eastern Michigan 2010 Outlook – The one bright spot in last year’s disastrous campaign was the emergence of QB Alex Gillett as a legitimate threat both throwing and running the ball. In limited action last season, he passed for 763 yards and ran for 484. If nothing else, the Eagles will be fun to watch with Gillett behind center for an entire season.
